Lorenzo Salgado Araujo shot and killed by ICE agent in Houston, authorities confirm:
Tell Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare to arrest the ICE agent who killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and pursue a full independent investigation now. ;
Before sunrise, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo left home like he had done for decades, carrying his lunch and coffee for another day as a homebuilder. He was a father, a husband, and a longtime Houston resident. ICE agents killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo as unmarked federal vehicles chased and boxed in his work van during an ICE raid.
The Harris County Medical Examiner has ruled Lorenzo’s death a homicide. He died from a gunshot wound after an ICE agent opened fire. DHS claims Lorenzo “weaponized” his vehicle and tried to run over an agent, but DHS has produced no proof. What we have seen are surveillance videos showing unmarked law enforcement vehicles pursuing and boxing in a work van, and a family demanding answers while federal officials try to control the story.
As of this morning, all three of the other people in the van at the time of ICE shooting Lorenzo to death have stated that no agents were ever in front of the car, and the agents fired from the side of the vehicle almost immediately after getting out of their unmarked SUVs.
DHS also says the agents involved were not wearing body cameras. That means the agency responsible for this killing is asking the public to accept its version of events with no body cam footage, no transparent release of evidence, and no accountability. DHS cannot be trusted to investigate itself. ICE cannot be allowed to kill someone, hide behind federal authority, and expect the local community to move on.
Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare must act like this is what the medical examiner says it is: a homicide. If anyone else shot and killed a man under these circumstances, they would not be given days or weeks to craft a story with their employer. They would be arrested, booked, and held while the investigation moved forward. ICE agents must not be treated differently.
